The old farm

The Homeplace is one of the sights at LBL. It’s a working farm from the 1800’s. The log buildings are 170 years old and have been restored and preserved. We found it interesting that the log house designs were to keep it cool with lots of porches and breezeways. It was an active farm for 150 years and then saved at LBL. It was a fun visit and we were luck to be able to see the tobacco barn operating where they smoke the tobacco leaves for 6 weeks to cure it into chewing tobacco or snuff….smoked tobacco?
