Wildlife on the Loop

We have seen a lot of different wildlife along the loop, cruising and at anchorages.

We saw a bald eagle yesterday and have seen a number of eagles nests along the waterways.

The deer come out in the evenings to munch on the tender grasses along the shoreline as the water recedes to the winter pool level. We’ve seen lots of does and a few bucks. Bow season started here about a week ago.

We saw a large water snake sunning itself on the rocks of the Cumberland and the next morning I had one curled up on the transom with the fender rope.

Plenty of ducks, geese, turkey vultures and gulls along the waterways.

The Blue and White Herons and Egrets are commonplace all along the rivers and lakes, fishing from the shore and shallows. These Herons create quite a squawk when you disturb them.

We had a fox cross the road in front of us in Grafton.

And these last few nights we’ve had the coyotes yipping and howling in the woods nearby…an eerie kind of sound.
